Frequently asked questions...

Ultem 9085 is a high-performance thermoplastic resin specifically formulated from polyetherimide (PEI). Renowned for its excellent balance of mechanical properties, high heat resistance, and flame retardancy, Ultem 9085 is predominantly utilized in additive manufacturing. As a PEI material, it exhibits exceptional thermal stability and retains its performance in demanding environments, making it suitable for aerospace, automotive, and military applications. The material’s lightweight yet strong composition allows for the production of robust end-use parts and prototypes, meeting stringent regulatory standards such as FAR 25.853 and OSU 65/65 for flame, smoke, and toxicity. Its inherent robustness, coupled with its precision and reliability, makes Ultem a preferred choice in industries requiring high durability and exacting standards.

Ultem 1010 has higher heat deflection and strength properties, whereas Ultem 9085 is preferred for applications requiring less weight or a small amount of flexibility – for example panels, jigs, and fixtures.

We currently only offer Ultem 9085, so if you need the best strength and temperature properties available, PEEK 3D printing may be a better option.

ULTEM 9085 demonstrates outstanding chemical resistance to a wide range of solvents, both synthetic and natural, as well as oils and numerous other chemicals. It maintains its integrity and mechanical strength when coming into contact with these chemicals, ensuring the durability and reliability of your part throughout its lifespan.

The build volume of our Ultem 3D printers is 260 x 260 x 260 mm.

However, we can also print larger models in sections for you to join together.
